Turnipseed Yoga and Bodywork
Welcome
I'm so glad you're here
My intention is to help you live in your body with more ease. Using massage therapy and visceral manipulation, I work with your nervous system to gently release adhesions in your muscles and ligaments that are inhibiting your body’s natural movement and causing restriction, pain, or dysfunction. This includes the ligaments that move your joints as well as the ones that enable your organs to move and function as they should. To help that healing stick, I offer individualized yoga to help you increase flexibility, restore proper posture, retrain your biomechanics, and build stamina and strength to keep your musculoskeletal system functioning optimally.
I can't wait to meet you
I'm Niki Turnipseed
I’m a licensed Massage Therapist, registered yoga teacher, and certified visceral manipulation practitioner in Denver, Colorado. I am a firm believer that when we are able to listen to our bodies with compassion and curiosity, we can facilitate deep healing and vitality that spirals out into our shared world. I’m here to help you listen and respond with grace.
OFFERINGS
These are the modalities in which I specialize. We can work together to figure out which combination best suit your needs and preferences.
Massage Therapy
Swedish Massage
Swedish massage uses gentle but firm touch, kneading, tapping, and friction to relax muscles and increase blood flow to the body's tissues. It's great for relieving stress by bringing the parasympathetic nervous system online to help you rest and heal.
Neuromuscular Massage
Neuromuscular massage techniques are highly effective at alleviating ongoing pain; they focus on finding and relieving trigger points--tender spots that refer pain elsewhere in your body. NMT frees up nerves entrapped by tense muscle tissue and helps increase blood flow back to injured tissues that have lost it in their (well-meaning, but sometimes a little overboard) attempts to protect the site of injury.
Myofascial Techniques
Myofascial massage techniques center on a gentle, but sustained pressure into the muscles and facia to reduce pain and restore motion and blood flow. This technique uses long, slow timing and low to moderate pressure. These techniques are my personal favorite as a client and as a therapist.
Deep Tissue Massage
My personal approach to deep tissue massage is this: I'll go deep when your muscles invite me there. Massage doesn't (always*) need to hurt, and, in fact, activating your sympathetic nervous system is antithetical to our work of lengthening and broadening your muscles and retraining dysfunction. When we push our connective tissue too far, too fast, it will recoil and work against our efforts. When we take the time to warm it up and ease our way deeper we can find effective and lasting healing.
*I'm here for the "hurts so good" and also, if you've got trigger points, releasing them does have to hurt for a bit, but they'll feel better soon!
therapeutic cupping
Therapeutic cupping is an ancient practice used across Egyptian, Chinese, Unani, Korean, and Tibetan healing systems among others. Cupping increases blood circulation to the area where the cups are placed. This may relieve tension in the connective tissues, which can improve overall blood flow and promote cell repair. It may also help form new connective tissues and create new blood vessels in the tissue. Given that scar tissue in injured muscles causes a lack of blood flow, cupping can be especially helpful for encouraging healing when compressive massage techniques aren't producing hoped for results.
Visceral Manipulation
"Only the tissues know." ― J.P. Barral
Visceral manipulation is a gentle, specific manual therapy that focuses on the internal organs and their environment. It aims to relieve pain and dysfunction by restoring the natural movement of the organs. You can read more about visceral manipulation at the Barral Institute's website.
Yoga
“Yoga does not just change the way we see things, it transforms the person who sees.” ― B.K.S Iyengar
Yoga is an ancient practice, with roots in Northern India. It incorporates physical postures, mindful breathing, and meditation to help practitioners reunite body and mind, and ease suffering.

Weekly Restorative Yoga
Relax and renew. In restorative yoga, we use blankets and bolsters to relax into gentle yoga poses. This allows the body to gently open to the benefits of the pose, and for you to surrender into relaxation.Ideal for those experiencing (or staving off) burnout, this practice works to heal accumulated stress and strain in the bodymind. It's especially beneficial for those with anxiety, depression, adrenal fatigue, cancer, or stress-related illnesses. For those joining in person, we've got plenty of props to borrow or you're welcome to bring your favorites. You might consider bringing your own eye pillow. For those joining online, the teacher will typically be cuing with a rectangular bolster, 3 blankets, 2 foam blocks, and a strap. Pillows and blankets from around the house can definitely get the job done. You might consider pulling off a couch cushion for a firmer support than those. You might consider purchasing a yoga strap that enables you to create and tighten a loop (i.e. the kind with the little metal buckle).

Please arrive on time for the start of your scheduled session. If you’re running late, I cannot extend your appointment by the amount you missed; your appointment will still end at the designated time.Sexual Impropriety Policy:
Please be aware that in a professional relationship, sexual intimacy, sexual innuendos, and inappropriate comments and/or touching are never appropriate. If this occurs, the session will be terminated immediately, will be reported to the proper agency, and shared with other local massage therapists to keep them safe.
Draping (being covered by a sheet) is required at all times for all treatment sessions. I reserve the right to end an appointment at any time if I feel threatened, uncomfortable, or if I feel a client is acting inappropriately.Sick Policy:

It's your responsibility to disclose any and all medical conditions which may be affected by massage pressure, lotions used, aroma scents, and any fabrics or textiles used throughout your massage. These conditions may include allergies.Clients who feel their needs were not met:
This is a collaborative endeavor. I encourage and expect you to express your needs both in intake and throughout our session. I would much rather have an open conversation with you about your needs and course correct when needed than to come upon a negative online review after the fact. So please, speak up and we’ll figure it out together.
